I was reminded lately of the time, maybe 6 or 7 years into marriage, when I asked my husband what his favorite food was. I, of course, thought that I knew…any Mexican food…right???!? Wrong. He said lasagna. I though to myself, I hadn’t ever made lasagna, so he must be wrong 😉 I better get to making some lasagna around my house. Lasagna seemed so tricky. Sooooo many layers! Frozen lasagna will have to do. Wrong again! I soon realized that lasagna doesn’t have to be hard to make. It is actually pretty easy with the right ingredients and a few tips.
LASAGNA TIPS!
- BROWN IT!!! Bake your lasagna with foil covering it, but make sure to take the foil off for the last 15-20 minutes. It will not only look prettier, but it will make your cheese get all crispy/melty and good. Who doesn’t like crispy/melty cheese!?!
- REST!!! Not you, the lasagna. This is the hardest part for me. Pull it out of the oven and let it rest for 20-30 minutes before you start digging in. It will help the cheese and sauce to run all over your plate. You can do it! Willpower people!
- SAUCE IT UP!!! I have found that using some key store-bought ingredients can make your homemade lasagna so much quicker and easier. I love Bertolli pasta sauce, because there are so many options. I love the tuscan-inspired Bertolli Tomato & Basil sauce, but you can totally transform your lasagna with a different sauce. I have used Bertolli Alfredo Sauce and made Chicken Alfredo Lasagna. I find these varieties at my local Smith’s (Kroger) or you can check them out here http://www.villabertolli.com/. Seriously, try switching the sauce in your favorite lasagna recipe. It will wow your friends and family. They will think you are the real deal and super fancy! Because you are 🙂
