A New Alternative to Your Moisturizing Routine

Awesome alternative to thick lotion

Looking for an alternative to your moisturizing routine? Recently I was in the waiting room at a doctors appointment.  Because our summer had been filled of lots of fun outdoor activities, my skin was especially dry. Like many of you, waiting rooms are really the only time I get to read a magazines, so I delved right into the first one that struck my fancy. I happened upon an article about how celebrities get there skin looking good for the red carpet or other special appearances. They featured several products that and talked about the effectiveness of each, but there was only one that stood out to me because it was a method of moisturizing I hadn’t tried. Instead of using a typical moisturizer, it suggested using a body oil mist. The specific oil featured was:

J.R. Watkins Body Oil Mist (Grapefruit)

I was familiar with J.R. Watkins products because they make the best lemon hand cream ever invented in the history of the world.   I knew of a local store that carried J.R. Watkins products and I made a mental note in my brain to look for this the next time I was there.  I ended up going a couple days later and got lucky.  They had several bottles of body oil mist, and I was torn between the “Coconut Milk and Honey” and the “Grapefruit” scents.  Being summer, I opted for the citrus and took home the last bottle of grapefruit they had with me.  It really does do all the things waiting room magazine clouted it to do. The natural ingredients help your body seal in the moisture it already has…which is the best kind. In addition to moisture, it gives off a bit more of a sheen than a typical lotion does.  Don’t worry you won’t sparkle in the sunlight or anything, it just means it will make your legs look twice as smooth when they reflect off a bit more light. Try not to overdo it. A little goes a long way. Also, you don’t have to worry about it leaving oil on clothing.  It absorbs very quickly and leaves a very light, delicious scent.   Don’t get me wrong, I love me some good smelling lotion, but I am definitely a believer in this product and this alternative approach to dry skin.  Just wanted to share the love…

If you are into making your own products, try mixing up a 2 oz spray bottle of avocado oil or  fractionated coconut oil and 3-5 drops  grapefruit essential oil. Can you copy-cat? Wink;)

  1. You might also look at Bio Oil (I found it at Walgreens… or Costco here in CA)…it can be a bit pricey but maybe you can mix it with Neutrogena no scent body oil…it smells really good too.

    1. That’s a great idea! I’ve done that mixing Organix Coconut Milk Serum with non scented Cetaphil. It was a good combo too!
