DIY Scented Pinecones

December 17, 2013 by Becky Leave a Comment

DIY Scented Pinecones

After gathering up some pretty pinecones from nature, it’s important to get rid of any critters and bacteria that may be lurking inside!  The best way to do this is to bake them in the oven. This also helps to open up the pinecones and they will look bigger!

Start by lining a baking sheet with foil and set the pinecones on the baking sheet leaving some space between them. Bake at 200° for 1 hour and allow them to cool.

There are a couple of options you can use to add the cinnamon scent.  You can use Cinnamon Essential Oil (although this is more expensive) or you can use candle making Cinnamon Fragrance Oil. (This is way less expensive and can be found in the craft store by the candle making supplies.)  Either can also be found on Amazon.com.

After the pinecones are cool, add 2-3 drops of the essential oil or fragrance oil into the center of the pinecones.  Place them into a zipper seal bag and allow to stand for a day or two.  Natural elements such as pinecones are porous and will absorb the scent nicely.

Display the scented pinecones in a pretty bowl to add a festive, holiday aroma to your home!
