Soft Pretzel Bones for Halloween

This recipe is sponsored by Rhodes Rolls.

October is here. Bring on the “spooky decorations” as my 5-year-old calls it.

The other day, we went to a friends house and she has her house amazingly adorned with all things spooky. She had things like bats hanging from the ceiling with fishing line, spider web lace tablecloths and darling apothecary jars with creepy labels and contents. This made my daughter want to make decorations too.

So, as I was purging/organizing the Tupperware cabinet, we found a plethora of mason jar rings and decided to turn them into silver pumpkins. My daughter scavenged the yard to find the perfect sticks to make for stems (her idea). They turned out cute!

Then, we decided to make something spooky and.. edible.

We love soft pretzels in my house, so we made these easy bone shaped pretzels. My only regret was not making more. They were gone way too fast.

Here is how I made them.

Soft Pretzels for Halloween

You will need:

  • 1 Bag Rhodes Frozen Texas Roll Dough
  • 3 Cups Hot Water
  • 1/3 Cup Baking Soda
  • Coarse Salt
  • Handful of flour

Step 1. Thaw out some Rhodes Frozen Texas Roll Dough Balls per the instructions on the bag. (1 dough ball = 1 soft pretzel bone)

Step 2.  Sprinkle your counter with flour and roll the dough ball out to be 16 inches in length (they shrink as they rest and rise). If they have a hard time stretching that long, get them as long as you can, then simply wait 5 minutes and give them another go.

(Now is the time to preheat your oven to 400 degrees)

Step 3. Tie an overhand knot at the end of each tube of dough. Make sure they are tight enough to not come apart while baking.

Step 4. Dip them in 3 cups hot water and 1/3 cup baking soda mixture.

Step 5. Sprinkle with Kosher Salt

Step 6. Bake at 400 degrees farenheit for 10-12 minutes.

That’s it! Enjoy with cheese sauce or my personal favorite, marinara sauce.
