Heart Shaped Krispy Treats for Valentines Day

Heart Shaped Krispy Treats for Valentines Day

What goes together better than hearts and chocolate on Valentine’s Day? Here’s an easy heart-shaped, chocolate-y treat to make for your valentine!  Kids love these too!  Krispy treats are one of the quickest and easiest treats to throw together, but the heart shape and chocolate drizzle make them extra special!

Here’s the recipe:

3 T. Butter

6 c. mini-marshmallows

6 c. crispy rice cereal

Measure the rice cereal into a large bowl and set aside.

Melt the butter in a medium sauce pan over low heat.  Add marshmallows and stir constantly over low heat until completely melted.  Pour over the rice cereal and fold in to coat evenly.  Press into a greased 13 x 9″ pan that has been sprayed with non-stick spray.  (I use a buttered spatula to press it in evenly.)

Wait about 5 minutes, but not much longer than that so that it will still be soft and easy to cut into with your cookie cutter.  (I like to spray my cookie cutter with the non-stick spray.) If it doesn’t cut all the way through, just remove the cookie cutter and go around the scored edge with a sharp knife.  Then, remove the heart-shaped treat and set in on a wire rack .  You should be able to get 6-12 hearts depending on the size of your cutter. (You will have scraps, but I’m sure someone in your house can take of getting rid of them!)

After all of the hearts are cut out and sitting on the wire rack, melt a large bar of chocolate.

My preferred method for melting the chocolate is to break up the chocolate bar into an oven safe bowl.  Put the bowl into a preheated 200° oven for about 10 minutes.  Stir until smooth.

With a spoon, drizzle the melted chocolate diagonally over the heart, back and forth to make it pretty. Allow to cool.

These are really cute wrapped in a clear cellophane bag with a ribbon for giving to your valentine!
