Once a year my family holds an annual “Hors d’oeuvre” party. Yesterday happened to be that day. Everyone is just supposed to bring a new or favorite appetizer to share for dinner. Of course you want to try everything so naturally, your plate fills up quickly and you probably eat more than you would on Thanksgiving. Oh how I pay for it later, but man, it’s good. As I searched Pinterest for what I should try this year, I kept coming across all kinds of cheese filled bread sticks and rolls. I thought I’d give them a try in a mini version. Bread Bites. Since I already have a killer, easy bread dough recipe I got to work making them up as I went.
Cheese Stuffed Bread Bites
1/2 recipe Mama’s Best Pizza Dough
String Cheese (8)
1 recipe Garlic Dill Glaze (see below)
Garlic Dill Glaze
6 Tbs. Salted Butter
1/2 tsp. dill weed
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. garlic salt
1/4 tsp Italian Seasoning
Make 1/2 batch of Mama’s Best Pizza Dough. (Click here for full recipe details)
Unwrap string cheeses and cut into half inch slices.
Roll dough onto a greased surface until about 1/4 in. thick. I used the cap of my Pam to make small, circular shapes that would perfectly wrap around the cheese.
Make sure to wrap seal the dough around the cheese and put the seam UP. I know you are tempted to put the seam down so it is prettier, but you will have more cheese oozing out if the seam is at the bottom. You want to keep all that yummy cheese inside. As the dough rises and bakes, it will smooth out on top. Place cheese-filled dough on a baking sheet about 1 inch apart. Bake at 375 for 16 min. or until golden brown on top.
Glaze with the Garlic Dill Glaze right out of the oven and then lightly salt. Best when served right out of the oven. Serve with your favorite marinara or alfredo sauce for dipping.
