Flowers For The Fiesta

April 16, 2014 by Becky 6 Comments

Easy Cinco de Mayo Decorations

Last year, we hosted a “Fiesta del Cinco de Mayo” party for our dinner group. We have a few couples that we get together with regularly and this time it was our turn. Since our turn fell in May, we decided to have a Cinco de Mayo theme!  We had Honey-Lime Chicken Enchiladas, Mexican rice, homemade re-fried beans and of course Cream de Coconut cake! We laughed and played games and had a great evening!

As I was preparing for the “fiesta”, I thought about decorations. This was the first thing that popped into my mind.  I remember making these tissue paper flowers in Elementary School! (Since I used to make them in elementary school, you know they are easy!)

I chose several sheets of brightly colored tissue paper. (I used 3 colors, 4 sheets of each color ~ so there were 12 layers.)

Fold it like a fan and staple it a couple of times in the middle.  Then, round off the ends with scissors to create a scallop (it’s not necessary, but I think it makes them prettier.)

Carefully pull up each layer of tissue paper (one layer at a time) into the middle. (Be careful not to pull too hard or you will tear the tissue.)

When all of the layers are pulled up, you will have this!

I scattered a few around the brim of a sombrero for a table centerpiece!

Aren’t these festive?
