Homemade Shortbread Twix Bars

Homemade Shortbread Twix Bars

Homemade Shortbread Twix Bars are one of my favorite ways to use my Homemade Microwave Caramel recipe. They taste a whole lot like Twix candy bars {which IS my favorite candy bar}.These all started out as an idea in my head and came to life one night that my husband was up late working on some homework.  They are so easy and inexpensive to make. If only it was appropriate to give out homemade candy bars at halloween, I would have. But, more for me I guess.

How to Make Homemade Twix Bars

First grease a cookie sheet with some Coconut oil to prevent caramel from sticking.

Next, line the entire bottom of the cookie sheet with 30 Lorna Doone Shortbread Cookies. I only did 24 cookies in the picture so I could have some leftover caramel for a Caramel Apple:)

Now, make my 7 minute caramel recipe in the microwave.

After the last stir down, pour all of the caramel over the middle of the cookies and spread it over all of them with a spoon.

Let the caramel cool.

Once cooled completely, melt some chocolate down with a pot like this.

Spread your chocolate over the caramel and let it cool and harden.

These would make an excellent party dessert. What is your favorite candy bar?

  1. These look heavenly!
I was wondering if this would work using homemade shortbread since Lorna Doones are so dang expensive. I have an easy shortbread recipe that always turns out, I can get my cookbook & share it w/you if you’d like. I score the cookies into rectangles, then triangles before baking so they come apart easily. My only concern is that they might be harder to cut without the cookies crumbling if I didn’t score.

    1. I would LOVE if you would share the recipe! I have never made shortbread before. One thing that was hard for me was once the caramel and chocolate was on, its hard to see the cookies (or scoring) I ended up cutting through some of them and the caramel held it together nicely if it does break a little bit. Thank you so much for offering a recipe. I could do a post so you can see how they turn out. I have had some requests for these at our next family gathering so I will use your recipe!
