DIY After Shower Spray – Keeps Your Shower Clean!

Showers are no fun to clean. How many of you have successfully trained your family to use a squeegee to clean the water spots off the shower walls before getting out? I have tried. This is a quick, easy way to get the water beads off the shower walls and clean it at the same time, without scrubbing! This same type of spray cleaner can be purchased in most stores near the cleaning supplies. When I used to buy it, I would go through a bottle every couple of weeks. This costs only pennies per bottle and really does the trick! These ingredients can be purchased in any grocery store.

Here are the things you’ll need (you may already have these at home.)

DIY After Shower Spray - ingredients

Into a large spray bottle, measure:

1/2 cup of Hydrogen Peroxide

1/2 cup Rubbing Alcohol

4 – 5 drops Dawn, Palmolive (or other liquid dish detergent)

2 teaspoons Dishwasher Rinse Aid (like Jet-Dry)

1 1/2 cups water

Shake gently to combine the ingredients. Label the bottle and be sure to keep it out of the reach of small children. (I actually drew measurement lines so that when I make a fresh batch, I don’t need to get out the measuring cups every time!)

After Shower Spray - keeps the shower clean with little effort

You’ll want to start with a clean shower. So give it a good scrub first. After showering and exiting the shower, start at the top of the shower and quickly spray the walls of the shower, including the glass door. Be sure it gets into the corners as well. The rinse aid helps the water beads sheet off and the other ingredients inhibit the growth of bacteria! This spray does not completely eliminate the need to clean your shower, but it will make it a lot easier to clean. There will be less hard water build up and other gunk!

If you’re not sure about how this spray will work on your shower’s surface, be sure to test it in a small inconspicuous area first. Please use caution when mixing chemicals. Keep away from eyes and be sure to always exercise caution when entering and exiting the shower.

  1. I have been using this solution for at least 3 weeks now & i swear it works better than the “store bought ” famous brand. So cheap & easy to put together. No more mold-mildew i my shower. I highly recommend this for anyone that needs-loves to save $$$.

  2. So do you rinse this off after you spray it on? This is used instead of a squeegee? I’m not sure which store bought project this replaces.
    Thanks!

    1. Nope. There is no need to rinse it off. That is the beauty of it! This can be used instead of the product named “Clean Shower” which is an after shower spray. I think there are other comparable products like “Scrubbing Bubbles” too.

    1. Ok, I know the solution isn’t technically “natural”, but compared to the typical bathroom cleaners that are filled with unpronounceable ingredients and whose fumes make me choke, it’s natural to me!

    1. I have not tried it on colored grout since I don’t have any in any of my showers. It would be a good idea to try it in an inconspicuous area first. Please keep us updated!

  3. I love this idea & will be making this soon. And I love the idea of putting the marks on the spray bottle so it doesn’t have to be measured each time. I believe you should be able to double this recipe & make a full bottle of the solution. And put one in each bathroom. I’m sure this could be used on the wash basin & in the toilet also. Thanks for the recipe.

    1. I have not had any problem with it being slick. There is a very small amount of the jet dry in the entire bottle and since it is just sprayed onto the walls, it doesn’t get too much of the solution on the floor.

  4. Has anyone tried this on an acrylic shower? I’d like to use it but wonder if the mix of peroxide and alcohol would do any damage.

    1. If you are concerned about how it would work on yours, I would recommend testing it in an inconspicuous area first. I have a cultured marble shower and it works perfectly on mine.

  5. I was wondering if this could be put in the automatic shower cleaner bottle. Thanks. I will use them !!!!!!!!!!!

    1. I would imagine so! I haven’t ever tried one of those little gadgets before. Let me know how it works!

  6. I have been using vinegar, Dawn and water in a spray bottle (bought from a dollar store) after every shower. It does help in prolonging the time between shower stall cleaning. Thanks for your tip. I intend to try it out. Keep up the good work.

    1. which is better. this version with the jet dry or your original version with the vinegar. curious which is better

    1. did you ever try both?
which is better. this version with the jet dry or the version with the vinegar. curious which is better. I am thinking of switching from my store bought Tilex to one of these, but not sure which is better?

  7. So glad I found this! We just moved into a newly built cottage so I am starting with a pristine shower. I have a health condition that prohibits the use of harsh smelling cleansers but this formula works like a charm. Thank you so much.
