Christmas Scent on the Stove Top

Christmas Scent on the Stove Top

The day we put up our Christmas tree is usually a quiet, snowy day some time after Thanksgiving.  We bring up all the boxes of ornaments and such and rearrange the furniture in the room.  Since our tree is artificial, I have to create the scent of Christmas in our house.  This combination of fresh ingredients creates a delicious scent with the aroma of the holidays.  Put the fresh ingredients and some water into a pot on the stove and bring it to a boil.  Then reduce the heat to simmer and the scent is all around the house!

Here’s what I put in the pot:

2 slices of a fresh lemon

2 slices of a fresh orange

2 cinnamon sticks

1 t. whole cloves

1 t. allspice berries

1 sprig of fresh rosemary

A few cranberries

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer.  Be careful that the pot does not boil dry.  Add more water as needed. When cool, you can store it in a jar in the refrigerator to use later.

As a thoughtful gift… Two Printable Options

These fresh ingredients can also be put into a clear cellophane bag with the FREE printable label attached.

    1. I would probably not leave it in the fridge for more than a day before giving it as a gift. You’ll want the ingredients to be really fresh and pretty!

  6. Have you done it but with dried orange and lemon? Wondering if all the scent would be gone, after drying the orange and lemon in the oven first? Thanks!
